BOOK DESCRIPTION

Many young people find learning to read particularly challenging because of a condition called dyslexia. As it is recognized in more young learners, the need to bring it into the public eye becomes increasingly important. I’m Not Dumb, I Just Can’t Read is inspired by a true story, and told from a child’s perspective. It uses delightful illustrations, and expresses the frustrations of being the “kid who can’t measure up” because of the struggle to read.
Author Heather VanBellinger dedicates this children’s story to her sister, who overcame the barriers of dyslexia and other learning disabilities to become a successful Special Ed. teacher.

Ms. VanBellinger presents a story with which children who face varied hurdles may identify. What begins as a sad, almost hopeless tale unfolds as one of triumph and joy.
